LABEL

1 Often dreaming of labels links with the human being's need to name things. Our sense of identity comes from the name we are given, and our label is much to do with the way that others see us and understand us.

2 To dream of having the wrong label suggests that we are aware that we are not perceiving something in the correct way. To be re-labelling something suggests that we have rectified a misperception.

3 In the spiritual sense a label can give us a sense of Identity (see Name).

LABOUR

1 To be labouring at something in the sense of working hard, suggests that we have a goal we wish to achieve. To dream of 'hard labour' will alert us to an aspect of self-flagellation or self-punishment in what we are doing.

2 If a woman dreams of being in labour she should look at her wish and desire to be pregnant.

3 The twelve labours of Hercules are reputed to represent the passage of the sun through the twelve signs of the Zodiac. They are also the hardships and effort man uses to attain self-realisation.

LABORATORY

1 Dreaming of working in a laboratory indicates that we need to be more scientific in our approach to life. We may have certain talents which need to be developed in an objective fashion, or we may need to develop our thinking faculty further.

2 A laboratory can suggest a very ordered existence, and it will depend on whether we are working in or are specimens in a laboratory how we interpret the dream.

3 Dreaming of a laboratory indicates we need to make an objective assessment of what is going on in our lives.

LABYRINTH

– also see Maze

1 On a purely practical level, the labyrinth appearing in dreams signifies the need to explore the hidden side of our own personality. With its many twists, turns and potential blind alleys it is a very potent representation of the human being. Within the labyrinth one meets and overcomes the difficulties in life which could impede progress.

2 Psychologically, in undertaking our own heroic journey, we must at some point go through some kind of labyrinth experience. It is undertaken at a point when we must travel into the differing areas of our subconscious and come to terms with our fears and doubts, before confronting our own Shadow (See Introduction). In dreams the labyrinth can be suggested by any dream which has us exploring a series of underground passages. It is held by some to be an exploration of the hidden feminine.

3 Spiritually the labyrinth experience marks a watershed. It is a symbol for the transition stage between the physical and practical world and a deeper understanding of all mankind. The route in one type of Labyrinth is 'unicursal' – that is, it goes by a straightforward route which covers maximum ground straight to the centre and out again. The second type is designed with the intention to confuse, and has many blind alleys and unexpected twists. This represents spiritual progress, through having to work out the key or code.
